So Over It

Senior year is over and Skylar Hoyt is ready to forgive and forget. Or at least forget. She wants a fresh start where people don’t know about her partying past or her younger sister and her baby. A place where she won’t run in to her ex-boyfriend every time she leaves the house. When she gets the chance to spend the summer in Hawaii with her grandparents, Skylar jumps at the chance to get out of town. But when her sister needs her, Skylar has to swallow her pride and come back home. Will she be strong enough to rise above the gossip and live the life God wants for her?

In Stephanie’s Words

The inspiration for So Over It —Skylar wanting to leave, then questioning if it was the right decision after all— came from a real life high school fantasy of mine. I dreamt about going far away to college, then returning home a fabulous new version of myself and blowing everyone away. I imagined my hair issues would magically work themselves out, I’d dress better, I’d stop being so darn shy and awkward, and I’d be tan (which was perhaps the most ridiculous part of the whole thing).

But since I ended up not going away to college (a long story that you can e-mail me about if you’re curious), I didn’t get to do the whole move-away-from-home thing until I was about 21. My husband and I decided to leave Kansas City for Florida, where I learned that I’m pretty much me wherever I go. And that was really hammered home when we moved back to Kansas City several years later, and a well-meaning woman at church took me by the arm and said, “Stephanie, you look exactly the same as you did when you left!” Sigh.
